Mauna Kea Ranger talks about safety and advice on the tallest mountain in the world-
We wanted to hear some information directly from a Mauna Kea ranger. Tips about safety. altitude sickness on Mauna Kea, minimum age for Mauna Kea, 4X4 for Mauna Kea, etc.
Number one rescued hiker on Mauna Kea is from Colorado!? Yes, some folks think that if you live in higher elevations or hike a lot, you don't need to acclimate to the elevation. This is not true. You are going from sea level to 13000 feet and need to adjust, even if you live on tope of Mt Everest. Be safe, follow the guidelines and you should be fine.
Of course make sure you are healthy enough for low oxygen. And by no means do you need to be out hiking, running, climbing, doing yoga, or anything else that requires oxygen for your body.
